Who it is for
Security practitioners, students, career changers and security leaders who want to find their local community: where people meet, which chapters are active, and which conferences are worth the trip.
How listings are researched
- Every date and venue comes from the organizer's own page or an official chapter directory. Event aggregators are used only as leads.
- A date is marked Confirmed only when the organizer's page shows it with the year.
- Every city is checked against the same national directories: ISSA, ISACA, ISC2, OWASP, Cloud Security Alliance, IAPP, HTCIA, DEF CON Groups, 2600, BSides, TOOOL, WiCyS, ICMCP, the Women's Society of Cyberjutsu, InfraGard, CISA, the NSA and DHS Centers of Academic Excellence, SecureWorld and SANS. When a city has no local chapter, its page names the nearest one.
- Regular meetings appear on the dates their published schedule produces, marked "Per published schedule; confirm with organizer."
- Groups with no public activity for 18 months or more move to a collapsed Dormant list.
- Every page shows the dates its research was verified, and every listing links to its sources.
What is included
Professional associations, hacker and grassroots groups, inclusion and career communities, public-private partnerships, university clubs and programs, conferences, training events and security-focused technical user groups. Adjacent communities, such as makerspaces, are included when they are useful to security people and are labeled as adjacent.
Not included: vendor webinars, online-only national events, private chat communities without public meetings, and anything that cannot be traced to its organizer.
What the labels mean
- Confirmed
- The organizer's page shows the date and year.
- Date TBA
- Announced by the organizer without a date.
- Expected
- Past editions suggest it will happen again; no date has been announced.
- Vendor-hosted
- Run or paid for by a company or events business. Often free to attend, usually with sponsor presentations.
- Free Paid
- Whether attending costs money.
- Members only
- Open to members of the organization; membership may cost money.
- Vetting required
- Attendance requires an application or background check, as with InfraGard.
- Students only Invite only
- Restricted to students, or to invited guests.
- Quiet
- The group exists but has shown no public activity for 6 to 18 months.
Keeping it accurate
Listings are re-verified periodically, and each city page shows the dates its research was verified. Organizers change venues and dates, so always confirm with the organizer before you go.
